How to Sprout Soybeans

Sprouting soybeans is a simple process that turns dry beans into fresh, nutritious sprouts you can use in many meals.

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Choose good quality beans
Start with high-quality, preferably organic soybeans. Make sure they are clean and free from debris.

Step 2: Measure your beans
Decide how much you want to sprout. Keep in mind they will roughly double in size.

Step 3: Rinse thoroughly
Rinse the soybeans well under running water to remove any dirt or impurities.

Step 4: Soak the beans
Place the soybeans in a large bowl and cover them completely with water. Leave extra space for expansion.
Let them soak for 8 to 10 hours or overnight.

Step 5: Drain and rinse again
After soaking, drain the water and rinse the beans with fresh water.

Setting Up for Sprouting

Step 6: Prepare a moist base
Place a clean, damp cloth or paper towel on a plate or tray.

Step 7: Spread the beans
Spread the soaked soybeans evenly in a single layer. Avoid overcrowding.

Step 8: Cover for humidity
Loosely cover with another damp cloth or plastic wrap to keep moisture in.

Step 9: Keep them warm
Place the tray in a warm area, away from direct sunlight.
Ideal temperature: 21°C to 27°C

Growing the Sprouts

Step 10: Rinse twice daily
Rinse the beans gently with fresh water twice a day to keep them moist.

Step 11: Let them grow
Continue this process for 3 to 5 days, until the sprouts reach about 0.5 to 1 cm in length (or your preferred size).

Finishing and Storage

Step 12: Final rinse
Give the sprouts a last rinse and drain them well.

Step 13: Store properly
Keep them in the fridge in a covered container. Best used fresh, but they will last a few days.
