Keep Your Microgreens Safe in Hot and Humid Weather

“Keep your little seeds and plants inside when it’s too hot and too humid!”

Mould can become a real challenge when growing microgreens in warm and humid conditions. But with a few simple steps, you can prevent it and still enjoy a healthy harvest.

Why Mould Happens

Mould grows when there is:

  • Warm temperatures

  • High humidity

  • Poor airflow

To reduce the risk, aim to keep temperatures below 26°C and always ensure good ventilation.

Germination Tips in Hot Weather

  • Normally, we use weight during germination

  • In hot and humid conditions, remove the weight after 24 hours

  • This improves airflow and reduces mould risk

  • Continue germination in a dark but well-ventilated area

Daily Care

  • Spray your seeds twice a day, just like in normal conditions

  • Do not overwater

  • Check your trays daily for any signs of mould

What To Do If You See Mould

  • Remove affected seeds immediately

  • Spray lightly with a mix of: 2 tablespoons hydrogen peroxide + 500 ml water

If the mould keeps coming back, it’s best to start again with a fresh tray.

Best Option in Hot Conditions

If possible, grow your microgreens in a temperature-controlled space (air conditioning).
In this case, simply follow your normal growing instructions.
