Temperature and Microgreens
Temperature plays a very important role in growing healthy microgreens. Getting it right will help your seeds germinate evenly and grow strong.
Ideal Growing Temperature
The best temperature range for most microgreens is:
18°C to 24°C
Keep in mind that this can vary depending on the type of plant, the growth stage, and the season.
-
Cooler-loving microgreens: kale, lettuce, peas
-
Warmer-loving microgreens: basil, rocket, amaranth
Growing in Hot Weather
During summer, temperatures can easily rise above 30°C, which can stress your microgreens.
To protect them:
-
Keep trays in an air-conditioned space when it gets too hot
-
You can place them outside in the early morning sun or late afternoon light
-
Avoid strong midday heat
As a general rule:
Once temperatures go above 27°C, it’s best to bring them into a cooler space.
Watering in Warm Conditions
Microgreens may need a little more water in warm weather, but be careful:
-
Keep the soil moist, not wet
-
Avoid overwatering, as this can lead to mould and poor growth
Final Tip
A stable, moderate temperature will always give you better results than extreme heat or cold. Keep your microgreens comfortable, and they will reward you with strong, healthy growth.
